Journal · Myths & Real Talk
Medically reviewed by Michael Clerveus, MD, board-certified general surgeon · Last reviewed October 7, 2026
We hear the same Lipo 360 myths almost every week. Here’s the straight answer to each one, from our team, without the hype.
Okay, real talk. Our front desk could probably write a book called “Things People Heard About Lipo 360 on the Internet.” Some of it is close to true. A lot of it isn’t.
So we pulled together the myths that come up most in our consult room, and we’re answering them the same way we would if you were sitting across from us. No filters, no hype.
Myth 1: “Lipo 360 is basically a weight-loss surgery”
This is the big one. And we get why people think it, because the word “lipo” shows up next to the word “fat” a lot.
But here’s the thing. Lipo 360 is a contouring procedure. It’s about shape, meaning how your waist, back and flanks flow together, not about a number on the scale. If your main goal is losing a significant amount of weight, that’s a different conversation, and an honest surgeon will tell you so.
If you’re wondering whether you’re a fit, our Lipo 360 candidacy page walks through the general factors we look at.
Myth 2: “It only does your stomach”
The “360” is the clue. The idea is treating the midsection all the way around, so the front, the sides and the back are planned together instead of as separate little zones.
Why does that matter? Because nobody looks at you from only one angle. When areas are planned as one, the goal is a more balanced outline. Exactly which areas make sense for you is something Dr. Clerveus maps out at your consult.
Myth 3: “Once you do it, you can eat whatever you want”
We wish. Honestly, we’d all sign up.
Your habits after any body contouring procedure still matter. Diet, movement, sleep, stress. All of it plays into how you look and feel over time. We’d rather you hear that from us now than feel misled later.
Myth 4: “Everybody gets the same result”
Nope. Results vary, and they vary for real reasons: your skin, your body shape, your health history, how you heal, and what was realistic to begin with.
That’s why we’re careful about photos you see online. A great result on someone else’s body tells you very little about yours. What actually helps is a surgeon looking at you and being straight about what’s possible.
Myth 5: “It’s the same thing as a tummy tuck”
These two get mixed up constantly. Liposuction-based procedures remove fat. A tummy tuck deals with loose skin and, in many cases, the abdominal muscles. Some people need one, some the other, and some ask about combining them.
We have a whole page on liposuction vs. tummy tuck if you want the deeper version.
Myth 6: “The surgeon doesn’t matter, it’s all the machine”
Tools help. Technique and judgment matter more. You want to know who is actually doing your procedure, what their training is, and how they plan.
At our practice, that’s Michael Clerveus, MD, a board-certified general surgeon. You can read about him on our surgeon page, and you’re welcome to ask him anything at your consult.
Myth 7: “A consult means I have to commit”
Not here. Our consultations are free, and the whole point is information. You can come in, ask your questions, hear what’s realistic, and go home and think about it. Plenty of people do exactly that.
So what’s actually true?
Here’s what we’d want you to walk away with:
- Lipo 360 is about contour, not weight loss
- It treats the midsection as a whole, front to back
- Your lifestyle still matters afterward
- Results vary from person to person
- The surgeon’s experience and planning matter a lot
- The only way to know what fits you is an in-person (or virtual) conversation
If you’ve been going back and forth on this for a while, the easiest next step is just getting your questions answered by someone who can actually see you. You can start with our main Lipo 360 in Wellington page, or skip straight to booking.

The idea behind “360” is planning the midsection all the way around. Which areas are right for you is decided at your consultation.

No. Consultations are free and there’s no obligation to schedule anything.
Ready to ask your own questions?
Your consultation is free, and there is no obligation to book anything. Our team is bilingual at both offices.
