Lipo 360 With a Tummy Tuck — Tightening the Front, Shaping All the Way Around

A tummy tuck corrects loose skin and muscle in front. It doesn’t slim the flanks or back. When both problems exist, combining the two can make the waist look balanced from every angle — but it’s a bigger operation, with stricter safety limits and a longer recovery. Results vary.

The logic

Why the two are often discussed together

This page describes a planning concept. Whether it applies to you depends on your exam.

Front-only can look wide

Tightening the abdomen while full flanks remain can make the waist look boxy in profile.

Back-to-front blending

Contouring the flanks and back lets the new front line continue around the body.

One recovery window

When it’s safe to combine, you recover once instead of twice.

Not always combined

Sometimes staging is safer — especially with large volumes, long operative times, or health factors.

Safety-first planning

How surgeons protect a combined procedure

Principles commonly applied

  • Liposuction of the lifted abdominal skin is limited or avoided to protect its blood supply
  • Total operative time and volume stay within limits Michael Clerveus, MD considers safe
  • Blood-clot prevention per your written plan
  • Accredited facility and the anesthesia professional named in your written plan for the full case
  • Overnight observation available if appropriate

When staging may be recommended

  • Large-volume liposuction would be needed alongside excision
  • BMI or health history increases risk
  • Nicotine use or wound-healing concerns
  • You can’t arrange the extended help at home a combined recovery needs

Combine or stage?

A side-by-side view

There’s no universal answer. The safer plan for you is the one Michael Clerveus, MD recommends after reviewing your health and goals.

Recovery

What a combined recovery may involve

Days 1–7

Bent-forward walking, binder, garment for the lipo zones, drain care if drains are used. An adult with you full-time.

Weeks 2–3

Gradual straightening; light activity; follow-ups per your written plan.

Weeks 4–8

Increasing activity on clearance; swelling in flanks/back may linger longer than in front.

Months 3–12

Contour settles; scar matures. Results vary.

FAQ

Lipo 360 + tummy tuck questions

Is this the same as a mommy makeover?

It can be part of one. A mommy makeover is a customized combination that may also include breast procedures. Mommy makeover →

Why not just do lipo on the whole abdomen too?

The skin that’s lifted in a tummy tuck depends on a limited blood supply. Aggressive liposuction of that skin can raise the risk of healing problems, so surgeons limit it.

Is recovery much longer than a tummy tuck alone?

Usually somewhat — more areas are healing and compression covers more of the torso. Your plan will include specific timelines.

Will I need to stay overnight?

Some patients do. Overnight observation is discussed at your consultation. It depends on the extent of surgery and your health.
