If your first procedure didn’t turn out how you hoped, you’re not alone, and you’re not to blame. Here’s what to ask about revision.
Let’s start with this: if you’re reading this because a past procedure didn’t turn out how you hoped, we’re sorry. That’s a hard place to be.
You might feel frustrated, embarrassed, or nervous about trusting anyone again. All of that is valid. And none of it means you did something wrong.
This post is about the questions to ask if you’re considering revision liposuction.
First, what is revision lipo?
Revision liposuction is a procedure aimed at addressing concerns after a previous liposuction. People ask about it for different reasons, like unevenness, areas that feel unfinished, or contour irregularities.
Our revision liposuction page explains more of the general basics.
“Is it my fault?”
You’re probably wondering this, even if you’d never say it out loud. Please hear us: outcomes depend on many things. Your body, how you healed, the technique, and other factors all play a role. Results vary, and sometimes they don’t land where anyone hoped.
We’re not here to judge you or anyone else. We’re here to look at where things are now.
Bring your history
The more information you can bring, the better. If you can, gather:
- The date of your previous procedure
- Which areas were treated
- Any records or notes you received
- Photos from before and after, if you’re comfortable sharing
- Any complications or issues during healing
Don’t stress if you don’t have everything. Bring what you can. If you need help, our medical records request page shows how records requests work in general.
Questions to ask about revision
1. What do you see when you look at my area?
Get a clear explanation of what’s going on, in plain words.
2. Is revision realistic for my situation?
Sometimes revision can help. Sometimes it may have limits. An honest surgeon will tell you both.
3. How is revision different from a first procedure?
Previously treated tissue can behave differently. Ask how that affects the plan.
4. What can and can’t be improved?
This one’s important. Setting realistic expectations protects you from a second disappointment.
5. What are the specific risks for me?
Revision can come with its own considerations. Ask openly. Our liposuction risks and safety page is worth reading first.
6. Should I wait before considering revision?
Healing takes time, and some changes keep settling. Ask whether it’s the right time to evaluate.
7. Who will perform it, and where?
Here, that’s Michael Clerveus, MD, a board-certified general surgeon. The procedure location is confirmed at your free consultation. See his surgeon page.
Rebuilding trust
It’s natural to feel guarded. Here’s what we think a good revision consult should feel like:
- You’re listened to, fully, without being rushed
- You get honest answers, even disappointing ones
- No one badmouths your previous provider
- You aren’t pressured to book anything
- You leave understanding your options
If a consult doesn’t feel like that, it’s okay to keep looking.
What about cost?
We don’t post prices. Revision plans are very individual, and you’ll get a personalized quote after your consult. Cherry financing is available, subject to credit approval.
Emotional check-in
Revision is a medical decision, but it’s an emotional one too. Before you go in, think about what you’re hoping for and what would feel like a meaningful improvement for you. Share that at your consult. It helps.
Take the first step gently
You don’t have to decide anything today. Start with a conversation. Our consultations are free, and you can begin with a virtual consult if that feels easier.
