More men ask us about lipo than you might think. Here are the questions guys bring up, and how we answer them.
Let’s get this out of the way: yes, men ask about liposuction. A lot of them.
But guys often approach it differently. The question tends to come out sideways, like “asking for a friend,” or tacked on at the end of a call about something else. So this post is for every guy who’s been curious but hasn’t asked yet.
“Is it weird for a guy to ask about this?”
Not even a little. Men come in with the same thing everyone else does: an area that bugs them that hasn’t changed despite effort. We don’t treat it like a big deal, because it isn’t.
Our liposuction for men page covers the basics.
The areas guys ask about most
Here’s what we hear about from men, generally:
Love handles and flanks. Probably number one. That spot above the belt that hangs on no matter how much you train. Read more on our flank liposuction page.
Belly. Lower stomach is a common one.
Chin and neck. The “double chin” that shows up in every photo. We have a chin and neck liposuction page for that.
Chest area. Many men ask about their chest. This one’s worth a careful conversation, because what’s going on underneath matters and not every case is just fat. Dr. Clerveus can talk you through it.
Back. Less common, but it comes up.
“I work out. Why isn’t this going away?”
Short answer: some fat deposits can be stubborn, and genetics play a big role in where your body holds on to fat.
That said, liposuction isn’t a replacement for training or healthy habits. It’s a contouring procedure for specific areas, not a weight-loss method. If someone tells you otherwise, be skeptical.
“Will it make me look ripped?”
Let’s be real: lipo doesn’t build muscle. If you’ve heard of HD lipo, the goal there is more defined contouring, but how that plays out depends heavily on your body, your muscle and your skin. You can read about it on our high-definition liposuction page.
Results vary. Anyone promising you a six-pack is overselling.
“What about downtime? I can’t miss much work.”
Common concern, especially for guys with physical jobs. Recovery is different for everyone, and it depends on what’s being treated and how you heal. Ask your surgeon:
- When can I return to desk work?
- When can I return to a physical job?
- When can I get back to lifting or training?
- Are there restrictions on driving?
Get answers specific to you, not internet averages.
“Can I be awake for it?”
Some procedures can be done awake with local anesthesia. Whether that works for your areas is a consult conversation.
Questions guys should bring
- Is this area actually fat, or something else?
- Which technique would you use?
- What’s realistic for my body type?
- When can I get back to training?
- Who will do the procedure?
- What does the quote include?
