If you split the year between Florida and somewhere colder, you probably have extra questions. Here’s how we think about seasonal stays.

Every fall, Palm Beach County fills back up. The license plates change, the restaurants get busier, and our phones start ringing with a very specific question:

“I’m only here for a few months. Can I still do this?”

It’s a great question. Let’s talk through how it can work.

You’re probably wondering about a few things

When you split the year between Florida and somewhere else, the questions are a little different:

  • Can I start the conversation before I even get down here?
  • How long do I need to stay local afterward?
  • What happens with follow-ups once I head home?
  • Who do I call if I have a question when I’m back up north?

All good questions. None of them are weird. We hear them a lot.

Start with a virtual consult

If you’re still up north, you don’t have to wait until you arrive. We offer virtual consultations, so you can talk about your goals, ask questions and get a sense of whether it’s worth an in-person visit, all from wherever you are.

It’s a low-key way to get the ball rolling. A virtual chat doesn’t replace an in-person exam, but it can save you time once you’re here.

Then the in-person visit

Once you’re in town, an in-person consult lets Dr. Clerveus, a board-certified general surgeon, actually examine the areas you’re thinking about and talk through what’s realistic. Results vary, and that exam is a big part of figuring out what makes sense for you.

We have two offices: Greenacres in Palm Beach County, and Oakland Park in Broward. So whether you winter in Wellington, Boca or Fort Lauderdale, there’s likely one within reach.

The big one: timing your stay

This is where seasonal residents need to be extra thoughtful.

Your plan should include time to heal and time for follow-up visits before you leave. How much time? That really depends on your procedure and how you heal, so we won’t give you a number here. Ask directly at your consult:

  1. How long should I plan to stay local after the procedure?
  2. How many follow-up visits do I need, and roughly when?
  3. Can any follow-ups be done virtually?
  4. What should I do if I have a concern after I’ve gone home?
  5. Is flying or a long drive okay, and when?

Our out-of-town patients page covers more of the general logistics.

Don’t book your flight home first

We say this with love. Please don’t lock in your departure date and then try to squeeze a procedure in before it. Talk to us first, then plan your travel around the medical advice you get.

Help at home matters, even in paradise

Seasonal places are great, but sometimes your usual support system isn’t nearby. Think about:

  • Who will drive you to and from the procedure
  • Who can stay with you at first
  • Whether your rental or condo has stairs
  • Groceries, meds and errands

Our patient info page has more general prep details.

What about financing?

Some seasonal residents ask about payment options. We offer Cherry financing, subject to credit approval. We don’t post prices, because every plan is different. Your quote comes after your consult.

The honest takeaway

A seasonal stay can work. It just takes a little more planning than usual. Start the conversation early, build in plenty of buffer, and don’t let your flight home drive the decision.

If you’re already here for the season, or heading down soon, a free consultation is the easiest way to find out if the timing works for you.
